I want to surprise a few of my real life friends who are in Second Life because of a big celebration coming up...but I want it a surprise and cant ask direct or it will tip them off...does anyone know how??..I cant find a thing about it anywhere on net or at website.
How do you find your real life friends in Second Life?
You can't, without their providing you the information. Read the Community Standards below; your friends' second lives are theirs, and you have no rights to them :) and anyone who provides such information to you is violating the Community Standards and the Terms of Service.
Reply:SC is pretty much correct. There's no valid way to know who is who from within Second Life itself unless you get this information directly. Some people value their privacy, and SL gives them the opportunity to remain so while socialising. If they have some RL information on their profile, that would be a way, but the trick is to find the profile in the first place.
However, it is perfectly fine if you determine their identities on-line from them, either directly or indirectly, meaning that they either can tell you outright or have it listed somewhere (such as a MySpace or Facebook page). Again, this depends on whether or not they have their SL identities listed in this way.
If I were in your position, I might consider an indirect approach. Perhaps you can "demonstrate" curiousity about Second Life and ask your friends about their experiences. If you can get them to volunteer enough information about their SL life, a little detective work might point you in the right direction. If this would seem to obvious, try having a mutual friend help out.
Best of luck.
Reply:It can't be done unless they tell you their Second Life names. Linden Labs protects the real life identity of all its residents. And disclosure by another resident is a Terms of Service violation.
